Americas Cardroom Review
Poker is America's game. Sure, the World Series of Poker has seen non-Americans take the title. But at the end of the day, Texas Hold'em and Omaha aren't called Paris Hold'em and London.
Which brings us to Americas Cardroom. As its name suggests, the site is focused on serving US players. For a country that was cheated by three of the biggest online poker sites in the world, America's Cardroom has offered players a lot of hope since that fateful day in April 2011 when the poker world collapsed for American online poker fans.
A Poker Site on the Rise
SSo does Americas Cardroom deliver? For the most part the answer is yes. As part of the Winning Poker Network, Americas Cardroom can proudly claim to be one of the top four US-facing poker rooms. Backed by management who seem to constantly respond to player demands with software enhancements and the type of promotions players want, it's only a matter of time before it becomes one of the new 'big three' US online poker sites. Keep reading to see why we've made such a bold prediction.
Before we get into what we love about Americas Cardroom, let's get the minor negatives out of the way.
Player Traffic
For starters, there's the traffic. Being able to play with several thousand players who are online isn't horrible, but three other poker networks sit ahead of them in terms of daily traffic. That said, the Americas Cardroom community continues to climb while some of the others remain stagnant, so there could be a shift happening soon.
Software
Next, there's the software. They've managed to improve the software and its features over the last few years. In fact, the 2011 Americas Cardroom and the 2019 version don't even look like they're related. But if you're used to playing on Stars or UltimateBet, you'll notice it just doesn't feel the same. Still, they stack up to the other current US-friendly poker sites.
Poker Formats
Game selection at Americas Cardroom includes the standard games but no mixed games:
- Texas Hold'em
- Omaha (high and high-low)
- 7 Card Stud (high and high-low)
Now, onto the good stuff.
The online poker site is home to a few great signature promotions and events that you can't really find anywhere else.
- Home of The Beast, a progressive points race worth six figures - every month
- Home of the Punta Cana Poker Classic, a legendary land-based tourney
- Home of Elite Benefits, a rewarding loyalty program
- $1000 Sign up Bonus Using ACR Bonus Code PS2015
Online poker is about more than just software and traffic. It's about community and promotions that keep your adrenaline pumping. Americas Cardroom trumps every other US online poker site in those departments.
Beat the Beast
First, there's The Beast. A lot of online poker sites offer point races or rake races. Basically, cash game players compete for the top spot on a leaderboard. The more rake you generate, the higher your position. But Americas Cardroom takes things to a whole new level with The Beast.
It's basically a player-fed points race that grows through jackpot tables. When you play at The Beast tables, you contribute a jackpot fee that gets loaded into a constantly climbing prize pool. You also earn points for playing, and the more points you earn the higher on the leaderboard you climb. At the end of every month, The Beast distributes the prize pool among the top winners. The Beast climbs to six figures every month, and players share in both cash and tournament entries.
Punta Cana Poker Classic
Americas Cardroom is also famous for its land-based event, the Punta Cana Poker Classic. When the now-defunct UB stopped their Aruba tournament, there was a big void left to fill for Caribbean-loving poker players. Americas Cardroom stepped in with the Punta Cana Poker Classic. The last few years saw the tournament prize pool guarantee grow to $500,000, and in 2013 the prize pool exceeded what was guaranteed.
VIP Program
Rounding out the list of incentives is Elite Benefits, Americas Cardroom's loyalty program that rewards you with really nice incentives, just for playing poker. And the loyalty program calculates points using the raked methodology, so everyone who gets dealt into a raked hand earns the same number of points, regardless of what they contributed.
Mobile
Once you’ve registered for an online poker account with Americas Cardroom for the first time, head back to the homepage, log in, and then look for the Play Now From Mobile button. Unfortunately, there still isn’t an Americas Cardroom mobile app, so you’ll just be directed to the mobile friendly browser version. This version is optimized for use on a smartphone or tablet. The quality of the visuals will remain the same on the mobile device than on your desktop despite the clear difference in screen sizes!
The only gaming option available to you while you’re on the move is Jackpot cash games and Sit and Gos. These SNGs are small tournaments with a modest jackpot size. It should be just enough for a quick and thrilling game when you’re out and about. The only buy-in spread is $2 so it is definitely a more modest option play at Americas Cardroom on your mobile device.
Although the selection is very small here, the quality is good and can be seen as a mirror of the larger desktop browser option. Give this casino site a try on your Android or iOS device to see if it’s a good option for you and your gaming needs.
Stake Levels
Americas Cardroom also boasts a good selection of cash game stake levels, and a healthy tournament mix. One big plus (though some players view it is a minus) is the Re-Entry tournament concept. Re-Entries let you jump back into a tournament with a new chip stack after you've busted out. You're placed at a brand new table, so it's a chance to reset and play as if you're brand new to the tourney.
Re-entry Play
Some players love Re-Entries - after all, they pump up the prize pool with a limited number of players, so to hit a $200,000 guarantee with a $200+15 buy-in, you only really need a few hundred players re-entering a few times. But other US online poker players are skeptical of Re-Entries, arguing that they give lousy players an unfair shot at winning a tournament they otherwise shouldn't win.
Go Try It Out!
Overall, Americas Cardroom is the online poker site that should be on every US player's radar. With land-based qualifiers, its own Caribbean event, lots of big tournaments, The Beast, and tons of cash tables always open, Americas Cardroom is one site we can confidently recommend.
