The World Series of Poker (WSOP) often inspires as much activity away from the felt as on it and this year is no different.
With players preparing for another summer of tournament action in Sin City, one is looking to make his mark early. A former low stakes grinder, Rulah Divine is using his WSOP success to launch a new venture.
From WSOP Win to Hip-Hop Beats
Speaking to Pokernews, the 2017 bracelet winner said he’s working on a new project called Raise Alwayz.
Fusing poker life coaching, management and raising diversity awareness within the game, Raise Alwayz is another of Divine’s many ventures.
To hype his brand, the entrepreneur has penned a poker song. Following in the footsteps of bad-beat-making performers like Prahlad Friedman (see video above), Divine released Eye of the Grinder on May 12.
A play on Survivor’s hit song Eye of the Tiger, the track has heavy hip-hop beats and a few nuggets of advice for aspiring pros (see video above).
Poker Makes Sweet Music
While the tune may not be to everyone’s taste, it does seem poker and music have an undying bond. As well as individuals making music, leading operators have jumped on the bandwagon in recent months.
In April, cofounder of India’s Spartan Poker, Amin Rozani, appeared in the video for Sajni Ve (see video above). The same month, another Indian online poker site dropped its own beat.
Partnering with Dependent Artists, 9Stacks released Hustle Hai (see video above). Also influenced by hip-hop, the song promotes the fundamentals of poker to India’s growing population of gamers.
While Divine isn’t attempting to convert players, his offering will add to the magic of the WSOP.
As much as players head to Las Vegas in search of bracelets, the festival is also a chance to party, settle old scores and embrace the game’s community spirit.
Indeed, with Daniel Negreanu and Shaun Deeb already beefing, bets and bluffs won’t be the only thing to watch this summer. In releasing Eye of the Grinder, Divine is hoping to bring his own sparkle to the 2019 WSOP.
