Winamax Series Raises Standards and Sets Records in Southern Europe

Winamax is making waves in the European online poker market thanks to the latest instalment of its flagship tournament series.

The nautical themed Winamax Series is back for the 29^th time and, this winter, it’s carrying a €20 million/$24 million guarantee.

That’s the biggest total prizepool Winamax has ever offered. But, more significantly, it matches the European record PokerStars set in 2018.

Segregated Series Sets Record

The latest Winamax Series is only available within Europe’s segregated online poker market. That means it’s open to players in France and Spain.

Due to those conditions, the $24 million guarantee makes it the largest MTT series ever held in the region and on par with PokerStars’ 2018 Winter Series.

The first of 198 MTTs in the Winamax Series got underway on January 3. Buy-ins range from $2.40 to $2,400,and the final events will conclude on January 14.

Equaling PokerStars is an accomplishment in and of itself. However, Winamax has endeavored to go one better by jacking up the guarantee for its $150 main event.

By guaranteeing $4.8 million, Winamax won’t have to share a record. Even if the guarantee isn’t broken, the main event will become the richest MTT ever held with the segregated European poker market.

Winamax Continues to Dominate PokerStars

Setting new standards with its flagship series will help Winamax cement its position within certain Europe countries. Indeed, as it stands, the poker, betting, and gaming site is the largest in France.

That’s hardly surprising given that it was founded by prominent figures within the French gaming community, including Alex Dreyfus and Patrick Bruel.

These roots have allowed Winamax to establish strong base in France and maintain its dominance in recent years, even after PokerStars was granted a local license.

Surpassing its main rival in an area where it is considered a world leader (i.e. MTTs) will go down as an important win for Winamax.

Even if its status outside of certain European countries can’t match PokerStars, it’s winning an important regional battle.

Leaving the politics of poker to one side, players in France and Spain can join the action on Winamax now. As well as direct buy-ins, players can qualify through a series of satellites right up until the last day of play on January 14.
