WhatIfGod In Seventh Heaven After EPT Online Main Event Victory

PokerStars’ EPT Online main event is over and Sweden’s WhatIfGod has won the first title of its kind.

Crossing the finish line and picking up more than $1 million in prize money was no mean feat. Not only was the Swede taking part in the first EPT Online main event in history, he had to overcome more than 1,300 players to secure victory.

If that wasn’t tough enough, things got even tougher as the field thinned. By the time nine were left, WhatIfGod had to beat the likes of Timothy Adams to become champion.

Volatile Finale Keeps Chips Flowing

Tikidiii led at the start of the final table on November 18. Although WhatIfGod was a close second, the end result was far from decided.

Indeed, as bets started to fly, chips changed hands at an alarming rate. At one point, almost anyone could have won.

However, as it always is in tournament poker, something had to give and give it did when short stacked vip25459 moved all in with K J. Jon Van Fleet called with pocket aces and, without any help from the board, vip25459 was sent to the rail in ninth place.

Despite failing to win, the Kazakhstani can still look back on their run as a success. Unlike many of those that made it deep, vip25459 didn’t pay the $5,200 entry fee.

Instead, they won their way into the EPT Online main event via a $22 satellite and turned that into a $78,796 payday. That, by anyone’s standards, is an achievement.

Van Fleet may have dashed vip25459’s Moneymaker-like dreams, but he was soon facing elimination himself. After losing a major coinflip, the American was out in eighth place.

WhatIfGod Claims EPT Online Main Event Title

At this point it looked as though David Yan was going to make a run for the title. Two fortune hands against Andreas Christoforou and Enio Bozzano saw him eliminate both players and move into a strong position.

However, the New Zealander’s luck soon ran out. With Viacheslav Buldygin and tikidiii eliminated, Yan was on borrowed time. He was eventually ushered towards the exit when his pocket tens were beaten by Timothy Adams’ A 4.

That pot put Adams into contention, but it wasn’t enough to topple WhatIfGod. The two-WCOOP winner had boxed clever throughout the finale and held strong heads-up.

Although it wasn’t all one-way traffic, the most important pot of the tournament went to WhatIfGod.

A series of bets and raises saw Adams commit his chips on an A 6 4 8 A board. When WhatIfGod called, Adams tabled A 9.

His opponent showed A T to scoop the pot by virtue of having a better kicker. With that, the 2020 EPT Online Main Event was over and WhatIfGod was more than $1 million richer.
