Viktor Blom, the player who made his name online, has won the partypoker MILLIONS Germany main event with a hero call worth more than $1 million.
Having cashed in the €2,500+€200 ($3,100+$250) event just two days earlier, Sweden’s Blom added his $6,500 to the main event prizepool on February 14.
With 1,022 entrance fees collected by King’s Casino’s cashiers, Blom et al were playing for a seven-figure payday.
When the fourth and final day rolled around, just 13 players remained and the player known online as Isildur1 was second in chips. Despite his formidable reputation, Blom’s 118 million chip stack was significantly shorter 219 million skyscraper sitting in front of Ondrej Drozd.
Blom on Fire
However, with some notable scalps already on his KO list, including James Akenhead, Martin Staszko and Philipp Gruissem, Blom was the player in form. That fact soon became apparent as the final table got underway.
After watching Niko Wieland move all-in from the cutoff with Q
The next time elimination came courtesy of chip leader Drozd before a few missteps saw him fall at the hands of Pavel Plesuv.
With a changing of the guard at the top of the leaderboard, Rickie Silcock stepped in to eliminate Radoslaw Wesierski in fifth place before Blom went on the offensive to take out Team partypoker’s Joao Simao.
At this stage, both Blom and Plesuv were in strong positions and Silcock was unable to compete. Despite his best efforts, the Englishman dropped out in third when his trip fours were no good against the straight of Plesuv.
Sick Call Ends Main Event
Prior to the start of the heads-ups showdown, Blom and Plesuv agreed a deal. With both pros agreeing to take $930,000 and play for the remaining $124,000, there was still something worth fighting for heads-up. As fans watched from inside King’s Casino Rozvadov and online via Twitch, Blom quickly fell to a 9 to 1 deficit.
Although he was almost out of it, the pro’s online experience and aggressive style allowed him to redress the balance in dramatic fashion. Once he was level, Blom’s flamboyant style kept the rail entertained before he made a daring call to clinch the title.
After calling bets before the flop, after the flop and on the turn, Plesuv moved all-in on the river. With the board showing Q
The $1 million+ win was the second largest of Blom’s tournament career and takes his live earnings just short of the $2.8 million mark.
