888poker has taken its brand of online gaming to the live arena once again for another showdown inside London’s Aspers Casino.
Getting underway on November 28, the £1,100/$1,200 main event was a chance for Europe’s finest to bag an early Christmas present.
Indeed, with a guaranteed prizepool of £500,000/$647,000, a cast of big names were in attendance during the opening rounds.
Moorman Wins but Misses Out in Main Event
Heading the list of pros vying for the $129,000 top prize was 888poker ambassador Chris Moorman. The online pro has been a force in the live arena for the best part of a decade now and was on winning form once again last week.
Taking part in the $2,800 high roller, Moorman defeated a tough final table that included former WSOP Main Event finalist Antoine Saout. That win not only netted the Brit $34,865 but provided the perfect springboard into the main event.
Coming through his opening flight, Moorman was in the mix on Day 2 but couldn’t find his way into the money. By the close of play, he wasn’t the only recognizable face lurking by the rail.
Following Moorman out of the door during Day 2 was fellow 888poker ambassadors Daria Feshchenko, Sofia Lovgren and Martin Jacobson. However, it wasn’t all bad news for the host’s team as Vivian Saliba made it into the money before cashing out in 26th place.
By the close of play on December 1, Aleksandrs Golubevs was out in front. Bagging 1.3 million chips, the local grinder was comfortably ahead of fellow local George Demetriou (1.18 million) and Brazil’s Valdir Cordeiro dos Santos (1.16 million).
888poker Bringing 2019 to an End in Style
With the year coming to a close, 888poker’s latest live event will bring 2019 to a glittering finish for British players. In addition to success for established events such as the GUKPT Goliath, Brits have been treated to some unique innovations this year.
Topping the list of new offerings in 2019 was the Triton London super high roller. Breaking the record for the most expensive poker tournament in history, the $1.27 million spectacular saw 54 players travel to London.
Flying in from parts of Europe, the US and Asia, the well-bankrolled cast generated a prizepool of more than $55 million. In the end, China’s Aaron Zang emerged as the winner after defeating Bryn Kenney heads-up.
The winner of 888poker’s Live London main event won’t win $16.7 million like Zang. However, their victory will signal the conclusion of another successful poker event in the UK and serve as a positive marker for what’s to come in 2020.
