Huahuan Feng Makes History by Winning WSOP Big 50 for More than $200,000

The World Series of Poker (WSOP) may be taking place online this year but the festival is still producing the type of magic we’ve come to expect.

The Main Event is currently working through its opening flights, but the biggest reminder of the WSOP’s allure came in the Big 50.

Taking place on GGPoker, the $50 MTT was a nod to the recent wave of small stakes bracelet events hosted by the WSOP. When the final chips had fallen on August 24, China’s Huahuan Feng not only walked away with the title but $211,282.

WSOP Big 50 Breaks Record

The fact Feng turned $50 into more than $200,000 is impressive enough in its own right. However, his feat was made all the more remarkable because he beat the biggest field in WSOP history.

When the registration books closed, the Big 50 had attracted 44,576 entries. That figure not only set a WSOP record but pushed the $1 million guarantee over the $2 million mark.

On the final day, luminaries such as Daniel Negreanu and Chris Moorman were still in contention. But, by the time 4,140 became seven, Feng was in control.

The Chinese pro had cashed six times in the WSOP Online Championship before the Big 50’s finale. That record, coupled with $300,000 in live earnings, stood him in good stead as the tournament neared its conclusion.

Indeed, as Xiong Huang, Di Lu, and Max Veyga fell by the wayside, Feng gradually moved into a commanding position.

He capitalized on that position when Max Veyga moved all-in with AQ. Feng called with KJ and promptly hit a king on the flop. A third king on the river sealed the deal and sent Veyga to the rail in fifth.

Feng Gets It Done in Style

With only three players in his way, Feng started to push the pace. Daniel Montagnolli and Ronald Haverkamp soon succumbed to Feng, leaving only Xue Qiao Zhao to offer some resistance.

Any resistance was short-lived as the match was over within five minutes. A short-stacked Zhao moved all-in with K6 hoping for two live cards.
