The World Series of Poker’s (WSOP) Online Championship continues to impress, this time with million-dollar prizepools and more bracelet winners.
As is often the case, the weekend brought out the masses. With US players on WSOP.com given more time to grind, 1,505 players anted up in the $600 Monster Stack.
Add another 569 rebuys to the mix and the 2,074 entries pushed the prizepool to $1,119,960. That’s the first prizepool of the WSOP Online Championship to hit the seven-figure mark and it was enough to give the winner, Ryan Torgerson, a $172,361 payday.
WSOP Online Championship Offers Monster Value
It took 12 hours to whittle down the monster field. Torgerson came into Event #10 with a point to prove after taking the runner-up spot in Event #9 and he did just that.
After watching the Tom Dean and Nick Pupillo fall in ninth and eighth place, respectively, Torgerson got to work. Playing under the moniker Im.Sorry, he displayed little in the way of sympathy as he took on Justin Whitfield.
With the board showing 8
By virtue of having the highest high-card hand, Torgerson took down the pot and eliminated Whitfield. That pot put Im.Sorry in the driving seat but his ride to the title was far from a smooth.
A tough spot against Sam Grizzle pushed Torgerson towards the bottom of the pile. However, that wasn’t to be the last of last these two would see of each other. As Brent Robert, Chris Carey, and Eric Blair all fell by the wayside, Torgerson moved his way back into contention.
